Aromatherapy is a great way to help you relax at the end of a long day. Mixing aromatherapy with a nice, warm shower is even better in my opinion:) There are several ways you can incorporate aromatherapy into your shower. You can use soaps & shampoos scented with essential oils or even add a few drops of essential oil directly to your shower pan. You can also use a shower steamer to incorporate aromatherapy into your shower. A shower steamer is basically like a bath bomb for your shower. The steamer dissolves slowly as it comes in contact with water releasing the essential oil from the steamer. This is my favorite method of aromatherapy for the shower as the essential oil is released slowly over the length of your shower. Some of the other methods I mentioned won't be as long lasting as a shower steamer. I have an easy diy recipe for shower steamers that I know you will love. For this recipe I am using Lavender essential oil as it is such a great oil to use in aromatherapy for it's calming and relaxing properties but if you prefer a different essential oil you can definitely switch the lavender out for one you prefer more.
For this recipe you will need:
A Mold (I linked the kind I use but you could also use a silicone mold)
First combine your baking soda, citric acid and kaolin clay in a mixing bowl, making sure to break up any clumps in the mixture. It is easiest to mix this recipe with your hands. I do suggest wearing gloves when mixing as the baking soda and citric acid can be abrasive.
Now add in 1/4 teaspoon of purple mica and stir until well combined.
Next add in your Lavender essential oil a little bit at a time and work into your mixture. Be careful not to pour the essential oil all in one area as it may cause the your mixture to activate(start fizzing).
Once you have the essential oil combined, give a light spritz to the mixture with witch hazel. Stir to combine. Check and see if you squeeze your shower steamer mixture if it will hold its shape. If it does, you can start placing the mixture into your mold. If not, spritz lightly again with witch hazel. Once again be careful not to add too much liquid at once or it will active and your shower steamers won't turn out correctly. There is no set amount for how much witch hazel it will take as the humidity around you can affect how much liquid is needed.
As you are adding the mixture to your molds, you will want to pack it in tightly. As you are filling the molds if you notice it isn't holding together any longer, give the mixture another light spritz with the witch hazel.
Once in the molds allow the shower steamers to dry for a minimum of 24 hours. If you live in a humid area it may take a little longer for them to dry completely. They should easily come out of the mold once they have dried.
Store your showers in a cool dry location to prolong their life. To use place a shower steamer in the pan of your shower in a spot where it will get wet but not directly hit with water so that you can enjoy the steamer as long as possible. I hope you give making these shower steamers a try and if you do, tag me on Instagram @essentially.tonya so I can see how they turned out:)
